HOW DO I APPLY TO THE SCHOOL OF ART + DESIGN?
All credit students applying to the School of Art + Design at Montgomery College (SA+D) must submit a School of Art + Design application, along with a $25 application fee (one-time, non-refundable). Checks should be made payable to Montgomery College. If you have already applied to Montgomery College using the general application form or if you are already a Montgomery College student, you do not need to pay the application fee again but you do need to submit the SA+D application. In addition to the SA+D application, the following items must be submitted:
- Official high school/college transcripts
- One letter of recommendation from an art teacher, counselor, employer or a professional in the art field who is not a relative.
- A portfolio review/interview

PORTFOLIO REVIEW
The portfolio is one of the most important factors in the School's admissions decision. Students should contact the SA+D Admissions Office at 240-567-4454 to arrange for a portfolio review and interview.
Instead of coming to the campus, you may opt to submit your portfolio in the form of slides or on a CD. If you choose one of these options, use good quality photos of your work and include a slide list.
Each prospective student's portfolio is evaluated individually. The SA+D Admissions Office considers the applicant's educational background and experience. Evidence of strong personal motivation, academic achievement, and strength of portfolio are all important factors in the School's admissions decision.
Applicants who would benefit from assistance in portfolio preparation may consider enrolling in SA+D's Portfolio Development class. This studio class is offered at various times during the year through the SA+D Continuing Education department.
